and victories at your B&B or just come to socialize! Tour the Inn. Enjoy the
magnificent view. Partake of a
delicious variety of heavy hors d’oeuvres.
If you wish, bring an Iowa beer or wine to share.
If you can’t come on Monday, don’t miss out on Sunday’s opportunity to
visit with your peers. $20/person.
Monday, March 18
15th Annual Spring Conference
WHERE:
Santa Maria Winery,
218
W. 6th Street, Carroll, Iowa
Santa Maria Winery is a unique, old-world style uban winery, tasting bar,
bistro/restaurant, and events center located in downtown Carroll, Iowa.
Located in an old, abandoned auto dealership, the building has been
beautifully renovated, with its courtyard and outdoor fireplaces, and nothing
has been spared in décor and design to make time spent there an experience to
remember. Well worth a trip to
Carroll just to see the Winery itself! Check it out at:
http://www.santamariawinery.com/
WHEN:
Monday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm. Registration: 7:30 – 8:00 am.
A Continental Breakfast will be
provided, so come early and network with fellow innkeepers.
8:00
-- The morning session will kick off with Special Guest Speaker Nola Cartmill,
JD, of the Des Moines firm of Belin, McCormick, Attorneys at Law, who
will discuss the implications and applicability of ADA public accommodations
laws
to the entire spectrum of innkeepers from casual to professional.
(Are you up on the latest regulations for compliance with the Americans With
Disabilities Act? Many of us got
into the industry because we loved the idea of opening our homes to new friends,
cultivating an atmosphere of welcome warmth.
Could our beloved B&Bs be ticking time bombs of litigation?)
Other highlights will include Social Media Specialist Shelly Turner, of
Turner Marketing Consulting, who will discuss the values to be gained from using
the various forms of Social Media—and how to get the most benefit for time
spent; Colleen Murphy, Partnerships Manager at the Iowa Tourism Office, who will
bring us up to speed on what’s new with tourism in Iowa in 2013; and Nancy
Fauser, IBBG member and Owner and Innkeeper of Heavenly Habitat B&B, in
Winterset, where she also operates a successful retail shop, specializing in
‘finding new uses for old items.’
Nancy will share with us her passion and ideas for the art of “repurposing,
upcycling, and reusing” old things. We’ll also have time for a tour of the
Winery, the announcement of IBBG Award winners, and our traditional Afternoon
Tea.
A buffet lunch, will be served at noon, and a surprise game of chance will keep
you on your toes and laughing right up to the final “Bingo!” at the end of the
day.
Once again, we don’t think you’ll be disappointed. This promises to be another
great conference, so we hope to see you there!
Plan now to take advantage of this opportunity to be exposed to some new ideas,
learn from seasoned experts and network with fellow innkeepers.
